Roof plan will make Buchanan Street a glass act
Given population and transport links you'd be struggling to improve on that. It already is one of Scotland, the UK's, and Europe's great streets and is doing rather well without a canopy. Retrofitting a canopy down the entire length of a street with such variable heights of buildings and changes in gradient will not be easy. Anyway why would you want to cut the elevations of some of Glasgow's best buildings off at the knees? Doing this could destroy one of Scotland's great urban vistas. Copenhagen has a thriving public realm and while they don't have our precipitation it can get a lot colder. Somehow they manage to have a fantastic street caf culture without resorting to such measures. Should we not be learning from that? Jan Gehl the architect behind the Copenhagen improvements will be coming to Glasgow shortly to talk to the Glasgow Institute of Architects.
Too cool for schoolies
Students who volunteer must make a commitment that embraces the whole of their year 12. They pledge to raise the money for their airfares and expenses and enough money to cover the cost of building the houses and classroom. The members of this year's group have been industrious. Daniel Rodway, 18, was the guest speaker at a dinner arranged by his uncle and aunt, Peter and Nicole Rodway. They held it in their home and guests paid $50 a couple. Money went towards building a new house. Before they flew out of Melbourne after their VCE exams, the students raised $20,000. Many of Daniel's mates headed to Queensland as he boarded the flight to India for his first overseas adventure. "The idea of travelling and seeing a foreign country attracted me more," he said.

Compared to other nations we are young, not even middle-aged, but as a culture we have become tired and sclerotic, slow to respond and slower still to act. Evidence is everywhere around us. It can be seen in our failure to keep pace with the rest of the world in everything from environmental policy to self-governance. The most recent example was the unseemly rush at Queen's Park to dismiss the report prepared by Trent University economist Harry Kitchen. Provincial politicians lined up to dump on a document that essentially proposes that those who use Ontario highways should pay for the privilege. Public transit riders have been familiar with the concept since the beginning; they're called fares, and everyone who rides the rails pays them. In Toronto, fares on the much-unfunded TTC rank among the highest in North America.
Back up your computer files
Losing one file on your computer can be annoying and inconvenient; losing all the information on your computer can be catastrophic. If you haven't given any thought to backing up your computer drives, you may want to consider doing so. Information on your computer can be lost in many ways. Experiencing a power surge or outage, lightening, a child playing on the keyboard or simply equipment failure are just a few of the causes.Your first step will be to decide what to backup. A good start would be to have a "laundry" list of the files you consider to be important. You will find that this list will also be valuable if you need to recover a single lost or damaged file. Some recommended files to backup would be financial information, family photos, personal projects, email and email addresses, your Internet bookmarks, any software that has been paid for and downloaded from the Internet, music downloads, business forms and letters, your .com web site, in reality, anything you do not want to loose or cannot replace.Next you will need to decide on a method to store this information.

Another high school coach once told me that working a football sideline, for him, was always "a dance with madness." Time and again, in the ebb and flow of tense competition, he felt damaging words for officials and players clog in his throat like thick sludge, held there by the thinnest fabric of conscience. Coaches, of course, are far from alone. Athletic events, from the stands to the scoreboard, routinely include as many vented spleens as splendid victories. When it comes to supporting our kids, whether as coaches or parents, common sense is often the most costly turnover on the stat sheet. As the father of a teenage athlete, the only thing keeping me from going Wacker on a referee from the bleachers, time and again, has been the feel of my wife's gentle hand on my shoulder.
9/11 is the Litmus Test.
There is one thing that defines everyone over the course of these early years of this new century. That thing is the 9/11 attack. Everyone in government and every field of endeavor the world over is defined by their position on this event. It is not necessary to know the truth. It is only necessary to know the extent of the lies in order to define any leader in any position anywhere in the world. By what they have said and by what they have not said, one can accurately judge who is an enemy of the people’s of the world. One can accurately determine who is a tool of the psychopaths or one of them. Think about what you allow yourself to know. Think about what you pass by; ignore, deny and defend ...that defines you. It defines the degree of your personal courage, your relationship to the truth, your values, your principles and what you will pass on to your children and everyone you meet.
When Did Cam’ron Become The “Voice of Hip-Hop?”
Ben Chavis (Who should change from Dr. to Rev. with his preaching), Kevin Liles (Who cares about your rise from intern to President? Thats not the issue) and Common (Even he had his misses). Now, 60 Minutes did a profile on the Stop Snitching epidemic which has been custom in inner-city neighborhoods for decades, but has exploded in recent years with its commercialization thru song and clothing. Who did 60 Minutes look for to talk about Stop Snitching? None other than the Albert Einstein of Hip-Hop, Camron. Whatever happened to publicists? I guess Jim Jones is preparing Killa for interviews. If you thought theres a witch hunt against Hip-Hop, your probably right? But in defense of the so-called art and poets like Russ would say are a bunch of fools. The worst legal defense team you can have.

I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I was flipping around the tv and landed on ESPN. I figured that listening to more in depth coverage of Tom Brady's ankle would be tv's version of Ambien, it would help me get my zzzzs. However, I made one fatal flaw, one that many mortals in Greek mythology made when looking at a Gorgon, I took a peek at the scroll on the bottom of the screen. There were two categories, NFL and SANTANA. Much to my astonishment, the Twins had agreed to send Johan Santana to the Mets for a hamburger today (pending the Mets contract extension for Santana). Well, maybe not a hamburger, but the Mets package of Phil Humber, Carlos Gomez, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey. Mulvey, wasn't that Jerry called his girlfriend who's name he couldn't remember. Oh no, that was Mulva.
