Allton Starts Web Design Firm in Lake Saint Louis, MO

Michael Allton can still remember his first website.

"It was 1997, and my mother had just formed a new non-profit organization in Norwalk, Ohio called Project Leadership. It was designed to promote leadership and community values and she wanted a website to help recruit members. I used FrontPage 97 and it was very basic, but it sparked my love for website design."

Since then, Michael has come a long way. For several years, he designed websites for businesses and organizations in Ohio while with an IT Firm. Then, last year, after moving to Lake Saint Louis, he started his own design firm, Stadia Studio.

"I wanted very much to get back into designing websites for small businesses," said Michael. "I've always enjoyed helping businesses grow, and having a great website is an integral part of that."

Stadia Studio specializes in providing small businesses with complete web services including website design, hosting, search engine optimization and consulting.

EchoStar Communications has won a court ruling in the TiVo Inc. v. EchoStar Communications Corp. lawsuit that allows the company to continue selling digital video recorders while it appeals rival TiVo Inc.'s victory in a patent case.

"We are pleased the Federal Court found that EchoStar has a 'substantial case on the merits' and blocked the Texas decision for the duration of the appeal. This action by the Federal Court reinforces our belief that the Texas court made significant errors during the trial process and we look forward to complete vindication of our position," read a statement from the company.

"As a result of the Court action, our customers will not be disrupted and all of our DVR models will continue to be available through the EchoStar distribution system."

TiVo won a trial in Texas, where it accused EchoStar of infringing a patent on so-called ‘time-warp’ technology that lets users record one programme while watching another.

LegCo Members Ask RTB For Better Local Coverage

YB Awang Haji Mohd Shafiee bin Ahmad said, "RTB has been allocated a budget of $52,808,811 for 2008/2009. There is only one crew in the Belait District. Being the largest district in Brunei, how can a crew make a good coverage in the district. Is there any plan to outsource to ensure comprehensive coverage?"

Minister of Energy YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya, in response, said, "Some activities that RTB are unable to cover in the Belait District are given to outsiders. The quality may not be good but it's enough to fulfil the objectives of covering all activities in the country."

YB Pehin Kapitan Lela DiRaja Dato Paduka Awang Gob Kin Chin, meanwhile, asked if RTB will be producing programmes in Chinese language, given that the radio station is doing so.

Texans and Their Tests

That said, the pervasive climate of misguided fear that standardized testing has led to in our secondary schools has no place in "higher education" (which begins to sound suspiciously like "military intelligence" in terms of its descriptive powers). Worse, the childishly simplistic insistence on comparing graduation rates between lavishly funded institutions like the University of Texas at Austin or Dallas and border schools like the University of Texas at Brownsville or the University of Texas Pan American can only continue to exacerbate the neo-colonialist approach that our state continues to take to its southern border. No child left behind indeed! Tell that to our thousands of part-time students struggling to make ends meet while trying to get by on what financial aid they can find, simulutaneously working one or more jobs and trying to find classes in understaffed and underfunded institutions.

Interest rates - the blame game

I'm a tie-to-the-belt-buckle guy so I found this strange and concerning: if they're being flippant with their ties, what else are they being flippant with?

This sartorial fun was just after the severe early 1990s recession, when the Reserve Bank got it wrong. Unfortunately, it's still getting it wrong.

Australians should blame the RBA for rising interest rates - with another one expected tomorrow - not just the former Coalition government.

For too long, Australians have looked to the RBA to solve economic problems. But there hasn't been enough focus on the fact that our central bank is likely to have inflamed the problems.

Our central bank projects an aura of omnipotence. But like any other government organisation it is fallible - and arguably flawed.
