InternetPerils' New Net Can Catch Phishers

InternetPerils exposes a cluster of phishing servers that operated for months undetected. InternetPerils' products identify phishing clusters so targets of phishing, including banks and consumers, can act by contacting the ISP hosting the cluster, or by contacting law enforcement agencies.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 19, 2006 -- InternetPerils, Inc., a leading provider of automated products for Internet Business Risk Management, today announced it has exposed a cluster of phishing servers operating from an ISP based in Germany. InternetPerils' analysis shows such clusters can infest unsuspecting ISPs for weeks or months. Free access to an animated GIF of the cluster over time, plus analysis, is available at http://www.internetperils.com/perilwatch/20060928.php with registration.

More on a Hillary Comeback

With the help of thegreenpapers.com the invaluable Green Papers, I made some calculations in a best-case scenario for Hillary Clinton in the Wisconsin, Ohio, and Texas primaries. I assumed that Clinton won statewide in each case, and that Obama carried only congressional districts (or in Texas, state Senate districts) dominated by upscale white voters and/or black voters. This is an especially optimistic assumption in Wisconsin, where Clinton currently trails Obama by 4 or 5 percent in public polls. The results are as follows: a 44-30 delegate edge in Wisconsin, an 83-58 delegate edge in Ohio, and an 82-41 delegate edge in Texas. Overall this is an 80-delegate advantage, based (again I emphasize) on optimistic assumptions.

This would be enough to erase the current 58-delegate edge Obama has in total delegates according to Real Clear Politics.

AAAS: State of the Art in Nuclear Physics-Experiment

Rounding out my AAAS coverage, we have the rest of an overview of the cutting edge research in the field of nuclear physics. My first article from this seminar focused on the theoretical and computational side; this article will focus on recent work on the experimental side. This portion of the seminar consisted of three experimentalists discussing their work, and one researcher discussing medical applications of nuclear physics.

The first talk was given by Dr. Elizabeth Beise, a professor of physics at the University of Maryland. She examined parity violation in electron scattering experiments. She started by highlighting how experiments can link various theories that work at very disparate length scales. While the new hotness in particle and experimental high energy physics is the Large Hadron Collider, which will slam protons into one another, she discussed using electrons as a simpler probe.

A new stage in the world class struggle: November-December 1995

In December 1995, David Walsh travelled to Europe as part of an international team of reporters to provide on-the-spot coverage of the massive strike wave in France. They studied the strike movement and the political crisis it produced and interviewed strikers, union officials and representatives of various "left" organisations, as well as non-strikers from various layers of the population.

This pamphlet was first published as a series or articles. It presents a detailed analysis of the strike movement and the role played by the various unions, political parties and tendencies.

It addresses a number of questions: Why did this movement erupt in France? Why has there been no comparable movement to this point in the US, although the attacks on social programmes carried out there go far beyond those proposed by the French government? What do these events portend for the future development of the class struggle in France, Europe and internationally? What have these events revealed about the revolutionary capacity of the working class, as well as the critical political problems which must be overcome?

Raiders and 49ers make small waves

FUNNY THING HOW free agency brings the Raiders and 49ers back to life every year at this time. Sure, they've died a painful death every fall since 2002. But they're reincarnated once again, and here are the answers to your gridiron questions:

Q: Who does new safety Gibril Wilson remind you of in Raiders history?

A: Easy answer. Wilson comes straight off a Super Bowl win, the same path that brought the Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes, return man Desmond Howard, defensive tackle Russell Maryland and (drum roll, please) cornerback Larry Brown.

Wilson, a San Jose native, has the potential to fare better than all of them, however. The Raiders secondary cried out for a better free safety last season. But for $16 million guaranteed? Well, that's the price when you post recent records of 4-12, 2-14, 4-12, 5-11 and 4-12.

Wild Card/Vacation Day 11 of 12

Only two more shopping days until I return to the final days of the City Council campaigns. Then, we'll have fun taking apart the campaigns. Any dirt yet? Any mudslinging. You know, the good stuff. Or is everyone behaving? My wife is now looking over my shoulder -- literally -- so I have to pretend that I'm just checking ball scores. See ya in two days. Here's Wild Card ...

Cisco, Dell and others have seen lumpy customer demand, but the folks that are producing those volatile sales patterns–CIOs–are moderately optimistic and expect solid technology spending in 2008, according to a survey by UBS.

In its survey, UBS noted that:

Our CIO survey–completed in February–points toward surprisingly solid IT spending growth in '08. While we remain cautious on IT spending, the survey suggests that the spending environment may not be as dire as many think, and supports the optimistic outlooks of HP, EMC, Sun & IBM.

REMEMBERING YESTERYEAR: Benjamin Long Rand's home has lots of history

In the original photographs one can see that there was a second story transom window located in the middle portion of this bay. It appears that this window was glazed with ornate leaded glass. Today, there is no window in this location. Also typical of the Queen Anne style is the polygonal tower just behind the front corner that rises from the ground level. The front of this home has a unique arched window in the cellar that may have been used to move coal or oil into the cellar for heating. There is an interesting folklore rumor surrounding this window. Allegedly there was a time in the Rand Co. history when their workers were attempting to unionize, which the Rands opposed as they did not want unions to be part of their business. It is said that someone, presumably an employee, fired a warning shot into this basement window in an attempt to pressure the Rand's into unionizing.
