It’s time to integrate TB/HIV care on a national scale

However, in the last year or so, a few countries, such as Kenya and Rwanda among the PEPFAR-focus countries, have achieved dramatic breakthroughs in screening and other service delivery, demonstrating that where there is a will, integration of TB/HIV service delivery on a national scale is indeed achievable — and quite quickly at that.

For instance, Kenya began provider-initiated testing and counselling (with opt out testing) for people in its TB programme in October 2005. By the fourth quarter of 2006, 67% of Kenyan TB patients were being tested for HIV — 85% of those testing positive are getting cotrimoxazole, though the programme is still struggling to get more than a third of the eligible people onto ART.

Similarly, Rwanda recently began PITC in its TB patients and TB screening in people at risk of HIV.

RIAA Crackdown Prompts Forum on File Sharing

Students downloading illegal files in Isla Vista are not subject to the crackdown, as they do not make use of the campus network.

According to Schmidt, DC++ and BitTorrent, two other popular file sharing programs, are not under scrutiny at this time. DC++ operates entirely behind the shield of the campus network, and as such is not visible to RIAA's representatives. BitTorrent operates through the principle of distributed downloading wherein users acquire tiny pieces of each file from many different sources rather than just one.

According to a RIAA press release, a survey conducted by the Intellectual Property Institute at the University of Richmond's School of Law found that over 50 percent of college students admit to illegally downloading music and movies.

Official university policy prohibits illegal activity on university networks or computers.

Children's tours span from art exhibit to library checkout

Noontime at the Missoula Public Library won't mean a lunch break for our Youth Services librarians, not for the next three months anyway. The library is once again hosting tours for every fifth-grade class in Missoula as part of our annual partnership with the Missoula Art Museum. The students begin their journey at the museum, where this year they are being treated to an exhibit by David Shaner, one of Montana's great ceramic artists. They have a chance to create some hands-on artwork before walking the few blocks to the library for a selection of books related to ceramics and a tour of the library's collection."Our hope is that by targeting one grade over a period of many years every public school student in Missoula County will have been to the library at least once," says children's librarian Karen Gonzales.

Teens killed in weekend crash

Dorset was her mother's pride and joy. Family members say the 15-year-old had an infectious smile and a vibrant spirit.

"I'm thankful there were no drugs or alcohol. He wasn't even speeding," said Dorset's mother. "It was just her time, I guess. It was just her time."

In her memory, friends erected a memorial at the crash site, a cross in Dorset's favorite color, blue, with flowers and teddy bears.

Clinton Wins Here But Power Revolt Splits New York

The congresswoman's mother and political adviser, Una Clarke, said, “I would just want to say to him, some of those who stayed on the plantation were much more loyal to the liberation of our people than those who came off and were confused. Some were dragged off the plantation, and when they got off, they didn't know what to do. Then you have those who stayed on the plantation and were more strategic in helping those who got off."

Helen Diane Foster, a councilwoman from the Bronx, predicted the Harlem establishment would suffer a reduction in clout in the event of a strong showing by Mr. Obama.

“Clearly, it can't carry that much weight when you have the three [Messrs. Rangel, Dinkins and Paterson] doing the endorsement, you have Calvin Butts doing the endorsement, and these are pillars in Harlem," she said.

How Internet Explorer became as wonky as the Leaning Tower of Pisa

It thought it had done this with IE7, released in 2006. But no. On Microsoft's own blogs, Chris Wilson, the IE platform architect who has been on that team for more than a decade, noted the team's surprise at how things didn't get better with IE7:

"In IE7 we made a lot more changes to improve IE's standards compliance, particularly with CSS. We limited these behavior changes to IE's "standards mode" only, and we expected that this would help limit compatibility problems as it had in the past. Unfortunately, and somewhat surprisingly to us, this wasn't true; many of those changes made IE incompatible with content that was already part of the web. It turned out by the time IE7 shipped in late 2006, roughly half of the top 200 US web sites were in "standards mode". Many of those sites had been "opted in" to standards mode by a tool that generated their content; many of them had probably been hand-coded by someone who was trying to do the right thing, and make their HTML code valid according to the W3C [World Wide Web Consortium].

Dubai to host 2008 World Jewellery Confederation Congress

This is the first time that this prestigious global gathering of jewellery trade organisations and professionals has been held in the Middle East. The choice of Dubai for this three-day event, which will be held under the patronage of DMCC, comes in recognition of the emirate's increasingly central role on the global jewellery stage. Among those expected to attend this high-profile meeting are leading members of the international jewellery trade, as well as government and United Nations representatives, all of whom will convene in Dubai to address the global outlook for a broad range of industry issues. DMCC will host the conference and a wide variety of related activities over the course of the three days. An international confederation of national jewellery trade organisations, CIBJO was founded in 1926 as a purely European organisation, becoming genuinely global in 1961.
