Arrogance doesn't play well in life

40,000 in tuition for two players and improperly solicited more than $80,000 from boosters. He also apparently did not report failed drug tests by players.

It got worse. Bliss urged players to lie to investigators looking into Baylor player Carlton Dotson, who shot and killed teammate Patrick Dennehy.

Bliss now has a "show cause" order for 10 years, which means any school wanting to hire him would have to appear before the NCAA Infractions Committee to discuss whether he would face additional limitations.

That's why coming clean with the NCAA is no longer one of the options for a coach or a school during a rules violation investigation. There is no choice.

You tell the truth, no matter how painful.

Save the arrogance for the playing field.

Dems Should Thank Nader, Not Trash Him

Hillary Clinton blamed Ralph Nader this weekend for Al Gore's 2000 loss to George W. Bush. She's hardly the first to make such a statement, but the comment reveals the patronizing attitudes that still pervade her party.

Barack Obama wasn't much nicer, saying Nader "did not know what he was talking about" when he claimed there was no difference between Bush and Gore.

But it's Clinton's comments that really got to me: She said categorically that Nader "is responsible for George W. Bush." She's wrong. You know who is "responsible" for Bush being elected? Gore. The Democratic Party. The American public. I first became aware of Nader as a high-school senior in 1996. I didn't get to vote that year - the election was held about five weeks before I turned 18 - but I would have voted for him.

Can Steve Jobs convince jailbreakers to walk the straight and narrow?

Apple Industry

So, Apple has released an SDK for the iPhone and iPod touch. Pretty soon the web will be flooded with quality apps which will be a click (and in many cases, a few bucks) away. But is this enough to convince jailbreakers (both the developers who rely on it now and consumers who have chosen to jailbreak their iPhone) to walk the straight and narrow?

See, while an SDK and new apps for the iPhone has generated some good press for Apple today, I can't help but notice that developers have managed to accomplish an awful lot without Apple's help.

WorkForce Software's EmpCenter Online Solution Selected by Matanuska ...

LIVONIA, Mich., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- WorkForce Software, Inc., a leader in workforce management solutions, announced today that Matanuska Telephone Association (MTA) selected its EmpCenter(TM) Online suite. MTA licensed EmpCenter Time and Attendance, Activity Based Costing, Employee Self-Service, and Accruals and Absence Manager to replace its antiquated workforce system.

"We chose WorkForce Software and its EmpCenter Online solution because it could support our complex pay rules, meet our short timeframe for implementation, and it is a hosted solution," said Gordon Boeve, finance accounting analyst at MTA. "There wasn't another vendor we looked at that could meet these requirements, and we are already on target to meet our end-of-year timeframe by working with WorkForce."

Automating and supporting complex pay rules, such as compliance with union labor agreements, organization-specific hourly and salary employee guidelines, overtime policies, and state and federal regulations was critical for MTA.

Food at certain Dallas-area hospitals is a cut above

If she has a particularly good restaurant meal, she'll slip the chef her card and invite him to call if he's looking for a new job.

"Rush Presbyterian in Chicago," she said with dreamy covetousness, "has a pastry chef."

Then, there's the you-get-to-have-a-life factor. Mr. Vorstenbosch, who has a wife and baby son, doesn't have to work the traditional nights-and-weekends restaurant schedule.

So how was the food? Spectacular. We had pork tenderloin dusted with chipotle chili, salmon with cucumber slaw, beef tenderloin with Chianti sauce, braised short ribs with smoked gouda grits, and best of all – I wish I had some now – wild mushroom enchiladas. It was all better than anything I had eaten in the previous month.

Well, nobody wants to go to the hospital.
