| Keep kids busy on March break
Library staff brainstorm each year to come up with a variety of programs that will appeal to children of all ages, said Inge Saczkowski, manager of children's services. "Some programs we bring back every year because they always sell out and we always try to give the kids an opportunity to see a big live show," she said. The big show this year will be courtesy of Dan the Music Man. Library programs include: A visit by a menagerie of animals from Bird Kingdom of Niagara Falls. Craft programs include spring wreaths, wall hangings, mobiles, bracelets and door hangers. For a full description of programs including times and locations, visit www.nflibrary.ca. Parents can register in person, online, or by calling 905-356-4053.
N.H. Is Campaign Central for Republicans
Polls show a dead-heat, and Romney's campaign is weighing whether to begin running negative ads against Huckabee. Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator, also is trying to compete in Iowa; he's not a factor in New Hampshire. Should Romney win Iowa's caucuses on Jan. 3, he'd come into New Hampshire in a commanding position and with a strong ground-game; Huckabee's candidacy could be over. But were Romney to lose in Iowa, GOP strategists say he would be wounded but still able to compete in next-up New Hampshire on Jan. 8 because of the foundation he's laid. If Huckabee triumphs in Iowa, these strategists say, it's unclear whether he can leverage that success into financial and organizational strength in the narrow window between Iowa and New Hampshire.
McLaren sets very high bar as hubby
Every February he goes to the FBR Open in Scottsdale and enjoys the crowd spectacle at the 16th hole. Many years ago on an off-day in Oakland, Ken Griffey Jr. lined up limos to take players and coaches to Pebble Beach, and McLaren passed because he had yet to take up the game. He said he'd die to play there now. There are perks to being a big league manager. McLaren was playing with a friend at Blackstone Country Club last week, and after they finished their round, the head guy pulled him aside and gave him a membership, waiving the $75,000 initiation fee. McLaren couldn't believe it. "I've always wanted to be part of a country club," he said. When he's not golfing or managing, McLaren is most apt to be at home reading the paper, messing around on the computer or watching ESPN.
Poets, Painters, and Portfolio Managers
David Landau came to Bard College intending to spend his undergraduate years sharpening his creative writing skills and immersing himself in the works of authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Jack Kerouac. His plans changed when he learned last fall that the school planned to create a new economics and finance dual-degree undergraduate program. The five-year program would allow him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in literature and writing, while simultaneously obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and finance. For Landau, also a math enthusiast, it was a tempting idea, one he never imagined he'd be able to take advantage of at a school like Bard, more known for its Shakespeare and theater classes than business offerings. "When I saw this program open up, I got very excited.

The Other Boleyn Girl, based on the novel by Philippa Gregory, tells the steamy tale of Boleyn sisters Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson), who vie for the romantic favor of King Henry VIII (Eric Bana).
Teens, tweens find new friend
FORT COLLINS — Lauren Myracle is 38 going on 15, and fluent in the instant-message lingua franca of the tweens and teens who've made her the literary equivalent of a rock star. Her novel "ttyl" — e-shorthand for "talk to you later" — was written in the form of instant messages, composed at the Fort Collins Starbucks that's become Myracle's de facto office. Along with companion volumes "ttfn" ("ta-ta for now") and "L8r, g8r" ("Later, gator"), that book launched a white-hot career arc that's still curving up, trailing Myracle, who seems a little stunned, like a child with a runaway kite. "It's so silly!" she says happily. Wide-eyed, with sassy short hair, Myracle punctuates her sentences with exclamation points in print and aloud, waving pink-glitter fingernails for extra emphasis.
Rich Hofmann: There will be a lot to digest in Clemens steroids ...
I WAS GOING TO HAVE a Roger Clemens Hearing Party but didn't know what to serve. The other sports are so much easier. Super Bowl parties all have a hollowed-out loaf of bread, kind of shaped like a football, with some dipping glop poured inside. If you have people over to watch a fight on pay-per-view, it's pretty much chips right out of the bag. But what do you do with this? And can you drink at 10 o'clock on a Wednesday morning? Or, rather, can you not drink and get through it? So many questions. Like, can ESPN's Chris Berman find a way to keep himself off of Deadspin for 5 minutes and come up with a few nicknames on the pregame show? Like, say, Henry "Turtle" Waxman? If I were a member of the committee, one of the esteemed honorables who had the good fortune to be assigned to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform - screw that Foreign Affairs or Ways and Means stuff - I would be torn about my appearance.

Does that description ring any bells? Louis Says: "Not very well acted. If he is modelled on Simon Cowell, there is a problem." The story is awful.. they should have come to us for help features@mirror.co.uk Louis was talking to Alun Palmer Scandal is a turn off for ITV By Mark Jefferies Rock Rivals is part of ITV's bid to claw back some cash in the wake of the phone-in scandals. The station lost £58million last year as a lack of revenue from premium-rate competitions contributed to a 35 per cent slide in pre-tax profits. It reported profits of £188m - £100m down on 2006. The company said revenues from premium-rate services (PRS), including the discontinued ITV Play channel, were down by £58m. The figures also illustrate a huge drop in calls to phone-vote shows such as I'm A Celebrity..., which are suffering as a result of the channel's tarnished reputation.
